I know that persuasion and argumentation are terms frequently used interchangeably, but they are not equivalent.

But what is the difference though?

Hello sweetie...yes, I'm still here.

Are you asking about kinds of speeches? Okay, I'll be back with my answer. I promise.

_____
back, as promised

These are sample topics of argumentative essays ---

*Should animals be used for scientific researches?
*Do we need prisons?
*Should the death penalty be mandatory for all murderers, or just for those who manage to kill people even when staying in a prison?
*Better naked, than in furs?
*Plastic surgeries: a way to become more beautiful, or someone’s unhealthy idea?

And these are examples of persuasive essay topics ---

*Your Mom is not happy with an outfit/make up that you are wearing for a school dance. Try to calm her down.
*You think that school uniform destroys you as an individual. Write a persuasive letter to your principal.
*Cheating and lying can sometimes be helpful. Convince your readers by giving bright examples.
*Think and prove that living in a big city is better than living in a small town (or vice versa).
*Convince your parents to buy you something.

Just by looking at the above examples, we can clearly see that argumentation covers a broader spectrum. Like you must be able to give your readers both the pros and the cons of the issue at hand. In wrting an argumentative essay or speech, you must take the non-committal stance. Your aim is to present concise, unbiased facts that would enable your readers to form their own opinions on the basis of the information you have assembled.

On the other hand, persuasion essays require you to take a specific side of (either for or against) a particular issue. And it is your task to persuade, convince, prevail upon your readers that your viewpoint is the proper course of action. It is an argumentation essay too but in a limited sense since you are only presenting ONE side of the issue and your end is to call your readers to action; i,e., to see things your way.

Good luck, sweetie!

persuasion assumes to have a point worth preserving, argumentation, in general, is abstract... less foundation... based on a mood of irritability, etc...
