Or in other words why do working class republicans serve the Aristocrats.

I can see having a passave interest in Billionaires as a curosity. But to vote for them year after year and sacrafice your family's well being to provide for the elitist is beyond my understanding.

You consider $100,000 a year poor? OK, set that aside for the moment.

American society has always functioned by holding out the promise of riches to the working class. When polled, more than 90% of high school students expect to be wealthy as adults. Everyone holds out hope of being that superstar athlete, singer, movie star or inventor who makes it big. It's a huge part of American mythology and consciousness that anyone can make it big. And the wealthy have done a good job of selling "trickle down" economics - the idea that if the rich do well, that eventually everyone else will too. "A rising tide floats all boats" as they say. Never mind that no reputable economist believes that anymore, or that the evidence shows that as the rich get richer, they just keep their wealth. There are no poor people with media outlets selling a contrary message. And, of course, every tax cut for the rich has been packaged with a little handout for the working class, along with a publicity blitz designed to get everyone to focus on just the little handout, and saying that anyone who opposes it "wants to raise your taxes."

It's worked very well so far - why would they change?

Read a book called, What's the Matter with Kansas? It tries to answer your exact question. Basically, the answer is that the Republican party has persuaded people who support them on social issues to vote against their own economic self-interest. So the answer is abortion and gay marriage. As if those things really affect the well-being of working class people. And as if the Republicans really care to do anything about those issues, when in fact their first priority is always to cut taxes for the rich and take away economic benefits for the middle class and the poor.

I don't understand it either. A lot of people say its because they don't believe in punishing the rich. So you want to place the heavier tax burden upon yourselves then? If the government is going to cut taxes for businesses and rich people its going to have to make it up somewhere. Thus the burden falls upon the middle and lower classes. But hey if that's what most Americans want they I guess there's nothing we can do about it.

Im with the guy who thinks that 100k/yr. isnt poor. what I think is more of a travesty than the tax cuts for the rich however is this :
why should a guy making minimum wage at Mickey D's paying taxes on a 40 hr. paycheck have to pay for someone on welfare to live better than he does when THEY DONT WORK and HE DOES. thaats the real injustice wouldnt you say?

The only explanation I can come up with is that they've been so indoctrinated by the neocon propaganda/religous right clts that they literally can't see the obvious.

Consider the fact that they began attacking Warren Buffet (the 2nd wealthiest man in America) for pointing out he pays less taxes as a percentage of income than middle class Americans--and calling for higher taxes on thewealthy.

Basicaly because they cut the taxes on the middle class too where as the Libs raise them on everyone to support those that don't want to work at all.

The break down of opinion polls by income. show that they don't any more. The republicans get the majority of their support from social conservatives and southern voters. The richest states are liberal ( CA NY MA MD etc) Read this on the problems of millionaires, it is really funny

Maybe because the rich man pays for the social programs he probably is in. We all know is the highest income earners that pay for the social programs people with low income enjoy. Also, with the tax cut rich invest in businesses which opens jobs for the working man.

We do not serve them, but we think that the rich should not be punished for making it rich through the capitalist system. I don't think there should be this many taxes for anyone, really. I'm for eliminating the IRS through the fair tax.
