i'm assuming you bought the music on iTunes music store, because that's the only way i can think of that they would be mp4 files.

You can't convert them because Apple protects them with DRM (digital rights management) to prevent pirating music. (the setting you are using only affects the way music cds are imported)

Fortunately, if you need to get your music on a device other than an ipod, there is a fairly simple - albeit annoying - workaround. Take a playlist of songs you bought from iTunes store and burn them to an audio CD. eject the CD and then re-insert it. iTunes should ask you if you would like to import the cd. Before you click "yes" make sure you go to preferences >> Advanced >> importing and select mp3 encoder from the drop down menu labled "import using" (as you said you tried to do before) --if there's no "ok" button on the screen, i'm assuming you're using a mac, and exiting out of the window should be fine. If you're using a windows machine, make sure you find the "ok" button -- it's there -- otherwise you're changes won't be saved. Now that you have done this, you can go back to itunes and import the cd. the files should be DRM-free mp3 files! enjoy!

ok, plug your ipod into the workstation. Then click record and press upload record to library then locate your mp3 record and upload it to itunes after its uploaded yo itunes authentic click the music and press create ACC version then while it quite is achieved delete the unique mp3 music from itunes (the only which starts highlighted after its completed making the ACC version) and then drag your music to the playlist or everywhere and your completed.

Go to http://www.zamzar.com ( or if you are using a YouTube vid, http://www.zamzar.com/url )

Then find the file and click Convert to mp3. Then type in your email. They'll send you an email a few mins later, simply click on the link and press Download, then press Save and save it somewhere where you'll be able to find it again.

Then open iTunes and press File > Add File to Library and there ya go. =D
