To solve: 3x/4 - 2 = x/6
The lcd is 12
multiplying both sides of the equation gives:

[(3x/4)*12] - (2*12) = (x/6)*12
(3x * 3) - 24 = x * 2
9x - 24 = 2x
collecting like terms:
9x - 2x = 24
7x = 24
x = 24/7

Multiply both sides of the equation by the LCD and cancel the denominators.
Like (3x/4-2)12=(x/6)12
which gives 9x-6=2x

I assume you are solving for x so first you want to add two to both sides to get: 3x/4 = x/6 + 2. Then you need to subtract x/6 from both sides to get 3x/4 - x/6 = 2. You need to get a common denominator which would be 12 so you multiply 3x and 3 and then 2 and x and you will get 9x/12 - 2x/12 = 2 which you then get to be 7x/12 = 2. Multiply by 12 on both sides to cancel the denominator to get 7x = 24. Divde by 7 on both sides to get x by itself and you end up with x = 24/7.
