Anyone know what the IP is to connect to a router?? My buddy has told me a few times but I never remeber it. It takes you directly to your router settings where you change security settings, stuff like that.

It depends on which manufacturer your router is from.

Belkin uses 192.168.2.1

Linksys uses 192.168.1.1 as does others.

Just type in 192.168.1.1 and see if your configuration page pulls up in the browser window.

If it does, make sure you set an administrative password, otherwise others can access your configuration pages too. Espcially if you use remote configuration options.

If neither of these work, I highly suggest you serf to the manufacturers website and click on the support area and access this information. It also should have been in the manual which came with your router.

Or, you can do this: Right click on your connections icon in the notification tray, and then select Status. A dialog box will appear. Click on the Support tab. At the bottom is your Default Gateway address, which is the address you type into your browser to reach your configuration pages.

If nobody has created an administrative password yet, leave that blank and logon without it. That is the default setting, BLANK. As you can imagine that is not a very good idea. So, once you have logged on go to the page which allows you to create a password. Make sure you don't forget it or you won't be able to access your configuration pages unless you set it back to factory specs.

Good luck and have a nice evening.

That depends on your router, but here's how to find out for any router: (this assumes you're running Windows XP, but is probably similar with Vista)

1. Click on the Start button.
2. Click Run...
3. In the text box, type in

cmd

4. A black "DOS box" window will pop up. Type into it

ipconfig /all

5. A bunch of seeming gibberish will fill the screen. On the line next to "Default Gateway" your router's IP address should appear.

Good luck.

It varies from model to model. Go to start/run and type cmd and enter. Then type ipconfig and enter. The bottom number is the default gateway (router) address.
