Make a playlist and back-up your protected music to an Audio CD (Go to... EDIT... Preferences... Advanced... Burning and make sure AUDIO CD is selected). This should always be done with your purchased music just in case anything ever happens to your hard-drive, you have a back-up.

Then rip the disk into MP3 format. (Go to... EDIT... Preferences... Advanced... Importing and make sure the MP3 option is selected)

For your non-protected AAC files, just "right-click" on the song and select "convert to MP3" you don't need to burn or re-rip those.

Then open the files in Windows Media Player, by default they should be located in C:\Documents and Settings\(your PC name)\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music or whatever folder you designated when you set up your iTunes.

There is a workaround for it

Just back up the songs to a CD or DVD and then reload it back to your computer or import the songs from Windows Media Player.

first of all are the downloaded through the itunes store or illegally? if they were downloaded illegally, thats a different story. if they were downloaded illegally, they're saved on your computer somewhere, and so uploading them to WMP should be simple. nevertheless, you can still use itunes as a music player even if you don't have an ipod.. personally, i prefer it over WMP.
