I want to upgrade from an ATI Radeon X1600 Pro AGP video card to a X1950 AGP card, but that card requires a PSU bigger than 460 Watts. My motherboard is a ASUS P4C800-E that is 5 years old. Can someone tell me if a 500 Watt PSU will fry the motherboard if i put it on?

No,the PSU converts AC to DC. You'll still getting 12,5.and 3 volts to the motherboard.

No. The 500 watt rating is how much the PSU CAN put out, not that it's always putting 500 watts into the motherboard, or into everything that's running, for that matter. In fact, the motherboard will always draw only the power it needs.

Just like a 100 watt light bulb doesn't draw more than 100 watts.

Hope that helps.

Which Coolermaster 600w are you conversing approximately? they have have been given particularly a pair of spectacular fashions, link us the capability grant.. it somewhat is obviously an surprisingly in a position rig, it is going to likely be a okay balanced power residence. EDIT: I only observed Vengeance kit? If it somewhat is the tall warmth sinks it is going to have clearance problems with aftermarket heat sinks. additionally i found out you probably did no longer positioned an o.e.m cooler(inventory intel heat sinks on a 2500k is a foul concept for OC), i propose you get a suitable air cooler or possibly a H100 water cooler(in case you opt for for to maintain the tall warmth sink Vengeance kit)

Nope. The 500W power supply will just deliver what your PC demands. The bigger PSU actually runs cooler all day long.
