Constantinople became Istanbul many years ago. It is now the largest city in Turkey, a thriving metropolis on the border of Europe and Asia. The government is avowedly secular, and strongly supported by the military, but as in most Muslim countries, there is a strong movement for an Islamic government.

The city is now called Istanbul. It is the capital of Turkey.

Most Turks are Muslims. Their "Geo.Washington" was Kemal Ataturk. After World War I, he established a "secular" - that means not religious - state.

Recently, a religious party has been having some success in elections there, and some people are worried that the Islamists are about to take over.

That won't happen, because the army is highly secular, and just won't put up with it.
