Vegas is probably better if you come from a big city. Weather is much much better in Vegas. Reno is cold and snowy in the winter. Doesn't get too cold in Vegas, maybe for a couple of weeks in January. Very seldom if ever does it snow. Vegas has everything imaginable for shopping. Just depends on what would make you happy. Big city or small town living.

I've never lived in either but I've visited them both a number of times. Still, take my answer with a grain of salt.
From what I can see, Vegas is a bit more cosmopolitan, whereas Reno is a bit more of a Western small-town. That's not entirely true, but it's the overall feel of the places. Think of it this way - Vegas is a "blue" state, Reno is "red."
The weather is certainly different, too - it gets colder in the winter in Reno. You have a lot more natural beauty nearby, if you enjoy mountains and lakes and pine trees. Vegas is definitely desert.

absolutely, positively, 100%, RENO. I lived in Lake Tahoe and Carson City for 12 years and also in Las Vegas for 9 years... if you have a choice, pick Reno- Las Vegas Sucks!

Reno. Better climate same type of entertainment on a smaller scale.
I used to think Vegas til I saw these photos. Reno is gorgeous and looks like a very livable city.
