I have a 2-year-old daughter, Jenna Ashlee, and a 7-month-old son Zachary Michael. Both middle names are family names. Michael, a popular one, is the name of my oldest brother and his son, so it was out for the first name, but we liked the people it had already represented, and hoped our son would carry it on.

I noticed that a lot of people are using traditional first names and older, or to put it better, classic middle names that come from their ancestors. I was wondering what parents that had children in the past couple years named their child, what style they used, and/or who they named them after.

I had a daughter born last year that I named after my best friend since 7th grade (25 years ago) and her name is Kimberly Ann. My son was born in 2004 and we named him Ryan Alexander. We decided that we were not going to use family names because we didn't want anyone to be upset that they were name after one person and not another.

Well, the last child my parents had was in 2000, so I can't say it fits your range. But, they did follow traditions. My parents are both Italian, and even though we now live in America they chose to give my siblings and me traditional Italian names. For example, my oldest sister is named Arabella after November 1st, the Saints Day. My parents followed this tradition for all the kids- I was born on September 20th, and September 20th is the Saint Sofia's day, so I was named Sofia. After the first names, my parents followed a tradition like you did- picked middle names after family members. My middle name is Adele, after my maternal grandmother.

I think its great that people are either starting to or have been naming their kids after family members or ancestors. Its definately better than made-up names!

Myne are Michael Alexander and Carmen Elizabeth. My husband is a Junior and my son is the third so that one was easy. My daughter is named after two of the most loving and genuine people I know, my great great great Aunt Carmen and my best friend who's middle name is also Elizabeth.
We never had a system to picking a name.... they just stood out for us and I was able to imagine myself still loving the sound of it years and years from now.

I wanted my kids to have different names so we chose Bailey Noel (like christmas) and Blake Alexander. My moms name was Lottie Olena and my dad was Robert Noel, my husbands parents were Virginia Jean and Donald Leroy. My husbands name is Brett but they named his sister Gay!

I named my son David Elijah because I wanted him to have a nice strong name. I didn't name him after any family members though, primarily because most of them are deadbeats.
