Au contraire. We come out to fully participate in society. Only those who carry shame remain closeted. They are too self-conscious to live openly and proudly. They cannot express love for their life-partners, sharing their lives, but instead engage in furtive, anonymous encounters, never to see their sex partner again.
Acceptability is claimed, not given. And we have staked that claim with no compromise.

alternative lifestyles? So have we reentered the 1970s? I've not been in the closet since puberty really, and not even a little bit since my late teens. I wasn't looking for acceptance for me certainly -- and I never thought my sexuality needed any justification, nor do I now. It is. It doesn't need justifying. I just prefer honesty and oddly -- I found that so did my friends.
Kind regards,
Reyn

People "want to come out of the closet" because they want to tell the truth. In order to stay in the closet, a person inevitably has to tell lies about themselves to keep their secret hidden. People have every right to tell the truth about themselves.

No, they just want to be able to be openly loving towards someone of the same sex without someone freaking out. Plus they need to tell their families and friends for obvious reasons. Is that not obvious?
Justified? I don't need to justify what I am. To be honest, the only opinion that matters to me is my own.

my son came out 6 years ago and it seemed to be a relief for him. i always had my suspicions, but i didn't want to come right out and ask him if he was gay. he doesn't have to justify his sexuality to anyone. he's happy with who he is and i love him no matter what.

no, so there is no confusion between other people guessing or assuming. If you didn't like mushrooms wouldn't you tell your waiter? It's matter of being honest with people and telling them the truth.-sometimes people can't handle the truth
