The car is an old Volkswagen Rabbit. When it ran out of gas, I cut out a section of the rusted gas line and replaced it with rubber. Now it's not getting gas and I can't find any valve to let air out of the line. Can I prime it with starting fluid or gas?

I hope you didn't use rubber, gas will eat it off and plug everything up. Use only gasoline approved fuel lines..

actually air in the line would not make a difference. if you are sure that a piece of the rusted gas line didnt get lodged somewhere in the rest of the line then you have to get the fuel to circulate again by putting atleast a 1/4 of a tank of gas in it and try starting it and holding the gas petal to the floor until it starts then let off the petal or you could spray starter fluid into the throttle body and get it to run until gas starts circulating again. Otherwise your problem may be a bad fuel pump or clogged fuel filter.

Hope this helps

Crank the starter a little, leave the key in the ON position. You should hear the fuel pump running. The fuel system is self priming. If you don't hear it the fuel pump, it may have failed or the filter is restricted.

You can open the air filter box and have someone spray starting fluid in the intake while you start it untill the lines are primed.

you may have a tendency to burn out the fuel pump when you run out of gas....
