Your family might be criminals and just don't want the I.R.S. to know how much money they have been hiding from the government.
If this is the case them you must blackmail your family into giving you money for college.
Good Luck!

Good news kid. You are 18 yo and you can get away from Mom and Dad. You can go into debt in a big way by blowing off the old man --- Stand up --- get a job. Live in a car, go to school on your own dime. Or you could ask your father what would be the wise fiscal thing to do. Are your HS grades good? SAT scores okay--- What college do you wish to attend? What do you wish to study. College is expensive --- and unless you want to go to learn something --- you can party your life away far more cheaply than enrolling, missing classes, and flunking out. But you are asking advice about YOUR life from strangers on the NET. OR You could at 18 enlist in the Marines or Army --- learn a language, learn to shoot well, learn to take and give orders (instructions) and come back in 48 months with a good deal of money for school and a great amount of maturity. You may get to see the world ---

talk to them. Why did they reneged? Is it something you have done?
If they will not discuss the matter; move out of the house and get a job or if necessary 2 jobs. file your own income tax. After a period of time of not beiong claimed by them, you can apply as an independent adult. you can save up for it and have a way to borrow what you need in addition to savings. I think it may be better to keep an apartment and not live on campass. I did this and I went all the way through grad school, once I was able to start.

If they won't you can't get loans or probably no grants or scholarships so you must work your way through college.
Maybe they will reconsider if you explain what this means. Your mom can fill out her part even without assets but your dad doesn't have to unless he got ordered to in a divorce.
You could get married that would make you an adult so no family contribution.

You're ONLY 18? In the eyes of the law, you are an adult. You may just have to get a job to put yourself through school. I've known many, many people that have had to do that because they couldn't get financial assistance or any sort of scholarships for school.
Yes. Going to school is expensive. Your parents don't HAVE to pay for you to go to college or even help you find the funding for it. I realize I will get a lot of thumbs down for this remark, and even get some remarks made for it, but I am not one of those parents that feel it's our responsibility to put a child through college. My parents paid for me to go, and I dropped out... I wasted their money! They don't hold it over my head, but I hold it over my head now. It was irresponsible and uncaring.
I think you should move on to plan B.

Go see your school councelor. If nothing else can be done then get a job and go to your local community college until you have your 2-year degree and your credit built up. Then apply for a student loan for your BA/MA - that's what I did. My parents didn't/couldn't help me - so I helped MYSELF. You are 18 and a legal adult. You are lucky if you can still live with your parents - I was out at 17.
DONT GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAMS!!! GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!

If you are 18, you can fill out the applications on your own.
You do not nee your parents, in fact they are no longer legally or financially responsible for you.
Therefore if you have no job, you make no money, and can't pay for college. So financial aid will help you.
You will go to college, if you want more assistance call your counselor at college and they will help you.

So you fill them out yourself.. if you are over 18 you can do this.. also apply for grants at the same time. Use your tax forms. if any.. talk to your counselor about your situation. let them consider you independent from them.
I know at least 2 people in college that got no help from their folks and they still got the financial aid.. don't panic!

You're 18. You're an adult. There are plenty of resources in place for you to take advantage of. Do a little homework, take out a loan, get a job, and go to college. You don't need parents to attend college.
