My husband is a fan of this name for a girls name (I'm still debating whether I want it as a name at all). I'm just wondering what nicknames there are other than Alex?

I have a good friend named Alexandra. I love it, I think it is a great strong name for a girl and still sounds feminine! It's such a great name, you really don't need a nickname.. but when we were kids we always called her Alexa, but she prefers the use of her full name now.

The most popular ones, along with Alex, are Lexy and Allie. I think Lexy is currently the most popular. I know a baby girl that is due in January that will be named Alexandra Lily, and will be called Alex and/or Lexy.

Besides Alex, there's Al, Allie,Alexa, Ola, Lexa, Lexie, Lex, Xandra, Sandra, Sandy, Sasha, Andra, Andy, Annie ... pretty much a never-ending list of shortenings, all with alternate spellings.

While it's obviously a perfectly acceptable, classic choice, I personally find nearly all the Alex- names quite overused (and the "sexy-Lexxi" sort of nicknames just a *touch* lower-class and possibly risque, I might add LOL). So not one I'd personally use, but you do have plenty of nickname options should he talk you into it. ;)

My friend's name is
Alexandra Marie.
She doesn't like going by any nicknames
because Alexandra is the name on her birth certificate!
But you can call her Lexi or Allie.

I love that name. My sisters name is Alexis and we call her Lex, Lexi, Lexis (Lexus), etc.

Alexandra, I really like Alex, but Lex, Lexi, or Ale (al) are also good. Love that name <3

Aly, Andi, Lexi, Lexa, Alexa and here's my favorite, Sasha.

Sasha is actually a boy's nickname in Russian. (Naomi Watts and Liev Schriber call their *son* Alexander Sasha.)

But it works for either gender, and I love it for a girl.

I personally think that it is a very beautiful name and wouldn't want any sort of nick name. Perhaps as the baby is older, a perfect nick name will come about.
