If it is not hurting anyone then why get rid of it?
My parents have had a ghost for 26 years and he's never hurt anyone, just can be a bit scary if you are there on your own.
They even call him Sam after the previous owner who was an old man called Samuel Wilkes who was apparently a grumpy old bugger who died just before they moved in.
If however, your friend is genuinely scared, then you could try a medium or depending on your religion you could ask your church to bless the house.
This might be difficult if your friend is catholic and doesn't attend church regularly.
If none of this works and the haunting is really bad some churches will carry out an Exorcism, but it would have to be mega bad for this, apparitions, physical presence and physical injury to your Friend and/or her family etc etc.

OK, heres the deal. So many people are always wanting to get rid of ghosts. The plain fact is this.
The ghosts were there first and most likely will be there long after the human occupants are gone. Some children are born predisposed to see and attract spirits. I am one of those. All of my life I have been surrounded by chosts and spirits. No matter where I move to or how many times I do so, there is always a doorway or portal to the other side.
I didnt even choose the place where I live now, my hubby did while I was in the nursing home recovering from a bed car wreck. Tell your friend to make piece with the spirit. Talk with it. It is very likely that this spirit is protective over the child. Unless harmful things begin to happen, then there is no need to worry. If they do then its time to get a medium to help. Just about any good witch will be able to do the trick.

First, your friend needs to tell the spirit that it should go to the light. Some times people don't know their dead. She should be very nice about it. Be respectful! (Maybe they died in an accident and didn't realize they died!)Remember they have free will though so it might not want to.Tell them not to be afraid, that people they know are there ,and they'll like it there more.Smudge and surround your home with white light too.You may also want to find out what is attracting them to your friend and her child. Is it the energy they have ?Or is it that the spirit is just lonely?Have your friend tell them if she's scared of them.(if she is) Talk to them just like she talks to you. Ask them not to scare you.ect.

Tell her to take the audio recorder and ask specific questions (Who are you? What are you doing here? Did you live here?) Dont tell them that they are dead-a lot of spirits dont realize that they have passed. She might get some answers. As long as the spirit isnt hurting anyone, she shouldnt be afraid. I can say that because I dont live there, but she should try to make some kind of peace with it and learn to live with it.

traditionally ghosts are trapped on our plane because they have a message they need to pass on. the best way to deal with a ghost of this sort is to ask it what its purpose is (though it may not communicate verbally).
a ghost who has passed on its message will normally then leave (this is what happens in shakespeare's play 'hamlet').
if the ghost seems stubborn you can always confront it with a laying incantation such as:
SIGNA TE SIGNA TEMERE ME TANGIS ET ANGIS
if none of this works, call in your local catholic church and talk to them about it.
....
i don't have a lot of personal experience to go on. i only ever met one ghost (i am not absolutely sure of this - but it is by far the easiest explanation) and he had 'passed on his message' before i even realised he was a ghost. (ghosts don't necessarily look like ghosts - at least, mine didn't).

You smudge.
Simple and effective. Safe and inexpensive! A Native American Staple. You may find smudge sticks at health food stores and new age shops. This will carry away negative energy and replace it with positive energy.
Best wishes...

Clear the house of all things associated with the occult and its practice. Books, games, videos, posters, music, religious idols, fairies, and etc. Even gifts from anyone who dabbles in witchcraft, astrology, and etc.
