Well it's about $9 a gallon (imp) in the UK (£4.45)
$1.32 a gallon (US) in the USA. (£0.68) - US gallon slightly less than imperial gallon.
Michael W is correct in that we have duty + vat. at far higher rates than most other countries. However notable exceptions Turkey & Turkish occupied area of Cyprus. = £5.85 / gallon

lets see, if the tank is 1/8 full, then it 7/8 empty there for 14 gallons is 7/8 of a tank if 7/8 * T = 14, then T (tank volume)=14*8/7=16 gallons a simple way to see that without algebra is to realize that if 7/8 of tank is 14 gallons, each 1/8 must be two gallons, and total must be 16 gallons and clearly if the tank holds 16, and he filled it by adding 14, he had to have 2 gallons to start with also, 1/8 of 16 is 2 so, it all comes together keep at it math is worth it

Pleas tell me I live in the U.S.A. and I haven't seen it at a $1.3 a gallon since America entered its OCCUPATION in Iraq!!!! I just got an e-mail the other day from a colleague at work that gas was up to $5.00 a gallon in California, U.S.A. And yes I know that is way less than $14.00 a gallon.
However, what we all need to do is push the car manufacturers to converting their engines from running on petrol to running on biomass fuels like ethanol (not E85 just straight ethanol it can work with the right modifications) or vegetable oil in diesel engines which Rudolph diesel wanted his engine to run off anyways!
p.s. Henry Ford out here in America had his original car running off of ETHANOL too and not petrol. We really need to wake up to the unnecessary monopoly the Oil industries have over the world.

It is hard to understand how Diesel fuel and unrefined is dearer than Petrol.Let alone the cost of the Diesel Engine in the first place.Today i saw Diesel at £1.06 and Petrol at £1 these rises will certainly stoke up inflation and make for higher food prices. The car is an essential factor of life but really where will these rises end.We need immedciate credit of at least 20p litre to return to a common sense price.Dirty Diesel the same price as a cheap bottle of vino the country has gone crazy.

Its road pricing and tax grabbing.
Forcing people to either not use the car or buy a smaller car.
Unfortunately, for most of us the car is essential for us in so many ways.
The cost of living will increase as so many services rely on road transport so these costs will be passed on to the consumer.
The UK is highly taxed. However, public services seem to be diminishing in quality so where is this tax going. (Paying for the war in Iraq?) The Americans would riot if they had to pay a similar amount, still I expect the Saudis are giving them a good discount.

It's actually the equivalent of about $9 a gallon in UK.
And don't forget that the dollar is really weak at the moment - over $2 to the pound. And our gallon is about 20% bigger than yours.
So in UK we pay about $7 - $7.50 for an American gallon of petrol / gas.
We pay a lot of tax on our petrol and diesel.

Where the heck in the US can you get gas for $1.30!! Here in California it's $3.33ish. When i lived in Virginia (last week) it was $2.85ish.
Yeah, i know its not $14, but still. I'm so sorry that the UK gas situation is what it is, but you guys also haev more fuel efficeint vehicles, and less vehicles per capita than americans do.
Also, americans have a deal with fossil fuel producers... cuz we're sneeky sneeky like that!

yes I think you have got your prices a bit wrong.
Petrol is around 3 dollars a gallon in the US (remembering that a US gallon is 3.8 litres whereas a UK gallon is 4.5 litres.)
http://www.api.org/aboutoilgas/gasoline/upload/PumpPriceUpdate.pdf
Here in the UK petrol is around £1 per litre which works out at £4.50 a uk gallon or 9.5 dollars a gallon ( 8 dollars a US gallon)
So it is not quite as bad as you make out. I personally think it is too cheap in the US and if the price went up to a realistic level people might think twice about driving such ridiculous gas guzzling monsters

It is the economy of you will pay it and have no choice. Americans are very tired of buying this fuel. It is against most principles for most people and it is up to $3.25 for diesel fuel and these people are getting rich off our sweat and we are so tired of having to give them money for our childrens dinner. So what do you think? Who can come up with a blue print for a new and different type of vehicle/ market it =you will be the next trillionaire and people will love you even if your a geek GET IT?
