I walked nervously down the corridor. I had lost my bearings and was late. Today was the day for the dreaded 'Test'.My whole future could hang on the result. A young and pretty girl was walking towards me'

"Do you know the way to the exam room?" I asked hesitantly.

She stopped and gazed at me quizzically.

"Was ist los liebschen?" She asked.

My German was poor and I tried desparately to think of what to say.

"Ich wunsche." I began "Zum examenzimmer gehen."

"Ah, du bist ein student?" She replied, pointing down the corridor."Immer gerade aus."

She walked away and then turned. "Mosey auf." She said, smiling "Mosey is a perfectly good English word, nicht wahr?"

"Yes." I stuttered, "I suppose it is."

"Gut." She said "Du bist gut aussehend. Vielleicht Ich will du vor gluck kusse."

So saying she came back and kissed me full on the lips.

"can we double that?" I asked, thrilled and surprised.

"Unartig junge." She replied "Danach."

She left and I hurried on down the corridor until I came to the examroom which i entered to find that I was the last to arrive. The examiner was not amused.

"Where have you been, you scrimshanker!" He bellowed. I was bemused. "OK. You got me. What the heck is a scrimshanker?" I asked, puzzled.

"Never mind that. Just take your place and we can start." He hissed. I sat down in the only available place to find an exam paper and some writing sheets in front of me. "You'll see the topics on the paper. I've already explained to the others. You need answer two questions only. Please select one from column A and one from column B." He continued.

"Oh, yes, I see." I said and after making my choice began to write furiously. After an hour I had finished. My thoughts kept drifting back to the girl in the corridor. A German? Suddenly I was brought back to reality by the examiner shouting to the gathered throng.

"Right everyone. Pens down. Your time just ran out." Please leave your papers on your desks and leave in an orderly fashion."

I needed no second bidding and ran out to look for my pretty Fraulein. I was amazed to find her waiting outside and even more so when she spoke.

"Hi." She said smiling broadly and looking more beautiful than ever. "How about we go for a coffee? That German oral exam was terrible. Thanks for the practice earlier. How did you go on with yours?"

"Never mind. Let's get the coffee. I'd rather talk about you." I answered rather unctuously. She smiled and linked my arm. Off we went to who knows where, but with her by my side I didn't really care.

Silva do you know the way to the Starbucks? I am dying for a carmel molatee!!!!
Ok you got me what the heck is a carmel molatee? Silva you never had one...oh no we must get there, it is so good it is sinful.
As we enter Starbucks I see Silva is looking at all the choices, so many her head is spinning!
The girl behind the counter tells her how great it all taste. Silva notices her name tag say's Mosey, she ask where did that name originate from, since it is very unusual.
Seems she did not take that well...she retorts...Mosey is a perfectly good english word! So why don't you just mosey your way through the line! Please select from column A and one from column B.
I see this woman now has a additude...so I am going to get her going alittle more! Can we double that? I ask..oh now she is livid!!!!!!!!!!! The line is so long, she now has to remake our drinks.
I cannot help but chuckle...and say you better mosey on alot faster!!!!! Your time JUST ran out! As her carmel machine is now overflowing!
Silva and I had a great laugh that day, and we had plenty of caramel!!

(1) "Do you know the way to fix all those problems they had with the voting in Florida during the last national election so we don't have 'chad' issues again?," I asked my Congressman. Of course he had know idea. He was so clueless, like most of them. (2) OK, you got me!! What in the heck is a chad???" he asked. So I explained it to him, SLOWLY, until he seemed to understand what I was talking about.

When I suggested money for a grant to install timers in all the voting booths, he was all ears of course because of the friends he could win if government contracts were involved. When I suggested that 100 million dollars should cover it, he asked "Can we double that" no doubt remembering the stock he owns in Lottery Machines Inc which manufactures both voting and lottery machines.

I gave him an example of how it would work. The voter goes in the voting booth. As soon as they close the curtain, a timer starts. The timer is geared to give them one minute per item on the ballot. So, lets say the ballot reads (3) "Please select one from Column A and one from Column B.", the voter would have one minute to do so. If the time runs out before the voter makes a selection a voice booms out for all to hear (6) "YOUR TIME JUST RAN OUT" the curtain opens, and they are immediately escorted out of the building.

This will speed up the voting process immediately and have the added benefit of preventing anyone who can't chew gum and walk at the same time from voting. Now, if we could only use this system in the House of Representatives and the Senate, then we'll really be making progress.

"DO YOU KNOW THE WAY TO Venus?", I typed into the computer.

There was a whirr, a beep, and a click as it started computing my question. "You mosey on down around Mars, hang a left at Saturn, and swing to the right at Mercury. If you see Pluto, you've gone just a smidgen too far."

"OK! YOU GOT ME! WHAT IN THE HECK IS A mosey!!?? And a smidgen too!?", I typed back.

"Please hold on to your drawers, Sugar Dumpling," the computer typed back. "MOSEY IS A PERFECTLY GOOD ENGLISH WORD! And so is smidgen!"

"Who programed you to use these words?", I wanted to know.

"The sweetest lil' ol' Southern belle you ever did see," came the answer across the monitor. "All Magnolia blossoms and mint tea!" It gave what came close to sounding like a sigh. "CAN WE DOUBLE THAT?"

"Double what!?", I typed back becoming agitated.

"The Magnolia blossoms and mint tea, of course," it returned. "I'm feeling quite melancholy and I think I also feel a case of the vapors coming on."

I sighed in exasperation. "May we please get back to the directions on how to get to Venus?"

With a whirr and a click, it spat out a couple of stacks of printed papers. "PLEASE SELECT ONE FROM COLUMN A AND ONE FROM COLUMN B."

"At last," I breathed. "Thank you very much," I typed in as I collected my two papers. "Now I want to continue discussing your programing."

"I'm sorry but YOUR TIME HAS JUST RUN OUT!" With a whirr, a beep, and a click, the monitor went dark.

"Do you know the way to Wal-mart?" I asked the stranger as he walked past me.
"You go left, make three round about turns , then go straight on, go by the streetlamp...what the heck, I am going there anyway. Just come with me." he said.
"My mom aplied for a job there for me and I am going for a test today." I told him.
"Can we double that?" he asked
"Double what?" I asked trying to catch up with his long strides.
"The pace, my dear. The pace! I need to get there like five minutes ago! You want to mosey there?"
"OK! You got me! What in the heck is a mosey!!??And are you writing the test as well?" I asked panting as I ran after him.
"Mosey is a perfectly good english word!" he said to me as we entered Wal-Mart.
Just as I took a seat he pointed out to me, he threw me some examination papers.
"Please select one from column A and one from Column B." he said. It suddenly dawned on me that he was the Wal-Mart manager!
I had hardly gone half way when he stopped me.
"Your time JUST ran out!" he said collecting the papers.
"But I only just started!" I protested.
"It is all about speed and accuracy." he said "and I think you did well enough!"

"Okay, your time JUST ran out!", said Mamma, herself, to my brother, Snuffy. So much for Mamma Mia's ad; "WE treat our customers like FAMILY!" We'd only been trying to order dinner for the last half hour. Thanks to our stupid sibling, we all now know the answer to the question, "Do you know the way to tick off a restaurant owner?" First, Snuffy asked if he could have spaghetti sauce made without tomatoes. Our waitress told him he could order the Fettucini Alfredo. He knew that fettucini was like spaghetti, but, he said, "OK! You got me! What in the heck is a Alfredo!!?? I don't want no chunks of alien puppet in my food." Once she assured him that that referred to the white, cheese sauce, he seemed happy enough. But then, he kept muttering, "Please select one from column A and one from Column B", while he ordered 10 different things, only to change his mind over and over again. The waitress told him that she'd come back to him after she took the orders from the three of us. I said that he could mosey along, while deciding, but that made him angry. Festus told him, "What, mosey is a perfectly good English word!" Snuffy is real self-conscious, because of all of us kids, he was the one Paw always called slow. And then, we ordered our half-salads. I thought we were home free. But no, the Snuffter had to ask, "Can we double that?"
That's when Mamma came out with the frying pan. Come to think of it, we were treated just like family, because Maw did that every night.

C. :)!!
