My dad always taught me that we have to do everything ten times better than whites to be considered equal (in their eyes). His advice helped me to be in the great position that I'm in today. Thanks Dad!

No. As long as there are groups like the NSM and KKK we will not have equality. Most people arn't hanging nooses, but there have been 40-50 noose related incidents since what happened in Jena, compare that to before Jena, when there were about 10-12 a year (CNN/ Southern Poverty Law Center). Racism is making a comeback. in the last 7 years there has been a 40% increase in the number of hate groups in the united states. But you really should open up this question, because there are more then just black people and white people, and as long as 1 person is being discriminated against, we all will suffer. Don't look at people as black or white, but as people.

Most people confuse equality with sameness. We are not the same. Beyond that, JFK pointed to the lack of equality within the same groupings. There is no such thing a equality under even the best of circumstances. Some are born to silverspoons and others to poverty. It's what we do with it that counts. Do we point to what we don't have or do the best with that we do have? Be the best of who you are. The best revenge in life is living well. Wonder how many non-blacks wish they were in the position of Obama? Wonder how many blacks? Envy isn't the answer. In America, anyone can do anything with the rightness of mind and heart.

I think we are equal. Some African Americans choose to not go to school, live on welfare, and have ten babies by ten different daddies, which causes a sterotype. However, just as many white people do that as well which causes the white trash stereotype. Some white people are racists. But some African Americans hate other races too. But we are all God's children and all the same.

My grandma said that people are like gingerbread cookies. Some were in the oven for less time and are lighter, and some were in the oven for more time and are darker but we all taste sweet on the inside.

I do believe that there can be equality. But ! We have to stop putting so much emphesis on race. If we truely hope to ever put a stop to discrimination we have to come together as americans not as Italian Americans, Irish Americans, African Americans, or Asian Americans. We have to stop giving people incintives based on race. Let people earn their place in the world based on merit not race. We have to stop accusing each other of racsism whenever an altercation occurs between people of a different ethnic background. And call those who profit from these type of circumstances what they are: Racial Zealots ! I want to see you not as black but as an intelligent person I want to be friends with and let your race count for nothing. I want you to see me not as white or a pour Irish immagrant's son. But an intelligent cool guy that you would like to get to know. We need to break down the walls that exclusive society has erected. Words that are aren't ok for one person to use should be universally unexceptable. You here from all sides about equality. But that only comes when we have enough respect for each other not to use popular culture to make subjects like this taboo. You are so awesome for bringing this up. You are the first step in this pursuit of equality.

Sometimes. But most times no. Some workplaces dont care about ones look while you have other places where african american natural hair is considered a big taboo (not sure why).

I myself try not to think about it too much because it just takes away time to better myself.

Only among those of us who keep an open mind, unfortunately at times you have to deal with people who like to keep s#*t going and that takes everyone 5 steps back, from where we were.
