how are humans superior to any other animal?

cause i've never understood why poeple think we are

true we have technology, but we are incredibly lazy so i don't find that to be a plus

I will use the standard that Nature herself uses: We are superior to other animals because we can, if we wish, utterly annihilate them.

History is written by the victors, and life is lived only by the survivors. As such, we are so far the survivingest thing around. Whether you like the survival you are enjoying or not, that is what our reasoning and tool-using have bought us.

There isn't any evidence that the human organism is superior in any other way than intellect. The human organism has developed the ability to look at itself from outside of itself and create a thing known as a 'self'. Human organisms use this 'self' as a reference for separating from the natural world and 'live' through this imagined 'self'.

I am unaware of any animal that wastes its time creating an imaginary entity by which it pretends to live through and ask ridiculous questions like 'what is life?'. I don't know if that really qualifies as superiority.

The only 2 things that make us superior are opposable thumbs and a larger brain. The larger brain is a huge price to pay however because it means humans have to be born much earlier and helpless. If you look at society you will notice that it is built around raising children. All commuities from the most primitive to the most advanced cities have people who teach children certain things. From how to hunt, gather and make things to soccer, basketball and home ec. Because of our need to raise kids that way we have become very communal. The opposable thumb thing just makes it easier for us to grasp and manipulate things. If dolphins had opposable thumbs they would probably be at the top of the food chain and not us.

We have great intelligence compared to other animal. We are top of the food chain, and can survive in many different places. When we get sick we take a pill and get better, while animals die from it.

Supposedly we have more mental capacity. (In other words, we know how to do more than just survive and die.)
Even though our bodies are weak compared to many animals, our "intellegence" has allowed humans to control all of the other species we have managed to find.

I agree with you. Who is to say that animals don't all have sophisticated forms of communication (like dolphins and whales) and that they are not capable of higher reasoning. In our arrogance, we automatically assume that because they haven't developed technology, they are "dumber" than us. Yet it may be our over-reliance on technology that ultimately destroys us all. How smart is that?

As Hume (I think) said: the "Brutes abstract not." We are capable of abstraction, which requires prior reasoning abilities. It is why our literal definition is the "rational animal."

Humans are the most superior because we have the capability to think and communicate.......Even though we arent the toughest .......are ability to think, instead of pure instinct makes us strong.....plus we can make weapons!
