Who is scared to speak their minds? Are you wanting everybody to spew out all the nasty comments that you do? Is that speaking your mind? Well, in my mind, I don't hate anyone, even you, so when I speak here, it is speaking my mind. You, on the other hand, really do speak your mind...and your mind is a troubled one. Sorry Kamran, I've tried to put myself in your shoes, as I do when anyone has hatred in their hearts, but I'm afraid your hatred runs too deep. Hopefully, with more years in your mind and experience, you'll soften up and find that hatred for your fellow man is really hatred turned inward.

Sometimes it is a wish not to offend, most people do not really want the truth although they say they do. Personally when I do "speak my mind" it is completely unrehearsed and tactless but very very true. I do not do it with any axe to grind. people are fairly shocked if not offended. So I try at least to ensure it is a fair as I can make it. When it comes the other way I hope I can take it unless it is a getting own back or trying to prove a point. The former I understand and accept the latter I take a while to forgive

They lack the courage of their convictions. They may realise their opinion although heartfelt is nonetheless too offencive to air and they prefer not to offend. They might not like arguments.Lots of reasons.
I see a lot of people going on about the P.C. brigade and certainly they do cane it a tad but where do you draw the line? There has to be boundaries surely.
Katkat:Honesty accompanied by sensitivity and common decency is fine.Blunt racism, sexism, ageism etc is just plain ignorant in normal circumstances.
Sometimes it helps if the boundaries are lifted.Have a look in the Scottish Soccer section where it's no holds barred and everyone calls everyone whatever they want and even the most vicious remarks are considered allowable but it's only funny because everyone understands the rules of engagement.

I'm definitely not afraid to speak my mind. I feel that if anyone has to say anything then don't be a coward and say it.
My philosophy is say what you mean and mean what you say. I often speak my mind and apologise in advance for any offence caused.
Well at least I try to.

I am definitely not scared to speak my mind. However, there are always situations where you can extremely hurt individuals or speak your mind when you are actually interfering with a relationship or a situation that is really none of your concern. Nice to speak out but also you have got to know when to be silent.

I'm not and never have been and never will be, and it is not the pc brigade that i worry about its the lack of knowing true figures and using statistics that annoys me most. as i keep saying i could ask a thousand people around me and get the weirdest of answers in fact i used to work with a company that done surveys. and its in the wording and you won't believe how many people said yes and no to the same question when asked in a different order.

I think it's the put~downs and the degrading way people respond that make some of us choose not to speak our minds.

Maybe because there are young minds who come on here and can be influence by what is said. I think maybe afraid is a bit strong but I think using a bit of commonsense is needed. There needs to be some responsability for what is said one here, just as much as anywhere else. I have seen a lot of bad judgement calls on some of the Q&A on this place.

Certainly in our small community its accepted that if you speak of yourself, then it would deem the subject open to public opinion. However to the opposite side of the coin,if naughties are observed, then that is private, unless the person or persons concerned make it public and open. There are few who notice to much, not to wise in pheasant season.

I agree with vambosthirdincarnation. What part of this question relates to race? People are scared to speak their mind because they lack conviction and articulation. But I think it's a good thing to keep your mouth shut if you can't effectively get your point across. Better that then to have me chew you out.
