I just can't figure it out. all the books say to cut some peices with a lining, but how do i attatch the lining? the clothes that i looked at for reference had both sides folded over ( like at a hem) and then the folded (bad) sides were sewn together. but that didn't really work and i'm very lost....

You make the same garment twice - once out of fabric and once out of lining. Leave the lining inside out and slide it into the garment. Then hand-sew the sleeves, collar and hem to finish it.

You make it the exact same as the garment but smaller Then it is sewn separately and tacked to the dress.....don't ask about armholes that is too confusing. The reason you make it smaller is then it fits inside the garment and the lining does not show. Some are sewn into the garment like a skirt some are tacked on like a coat.
