I met my husband in Poland in 1981 (I'm American). We've lived in the US since he came here in 1982, but we've been back to see his family quite a few times.
He is from Gorlice which is about 2 hours East of Krakow. We are currently building our retirement home near Kielce (2 hours, or so, South of Warsaw) which is where my husband would spend his summers with his grandmother. Two very distinctly different areas, but we love them both!

I have been to Poland several hundred times going by the ferry line from Trelleborg to Sassnitz and from Ystad to Świnoujście (Svinemünde) and then by car, mostly to (Breslau) Wroclaw but also to Warszawa stolica Polskiego and the former capital Krakow. Who has not been to Zakopane or the mountain area?
Going by the ferry between Trelleborg to Sassnitz one have to pas through the Paradise of the Workers and around Berlin because Berlin was a forbidden area on a transit visa. I really miss the stupid custom officers and the Volkspolizei to play jokes with them. It is boring today when they see that I am driving an EU licensed car, they do not care at all.

I've been there on vacation, Warsaw and Krakow. I absolutely loved Krakow, very bright and fun city. Also went to Auschwitz...talk about a somber day. It was a highlight of the trip, but sounds funny saying that it was. Definitely something I'll never forget. The museum with the display of hair, and shoes, and luggage. I had to walk away from the group and gather myself.

I've been to Szczecin, in the northwest, close to Berlin and the Baltic Sea. I haven't yet been anywhere else in Poland but I hope to get an opportunity to do so!

i've been their a couple of times and we're saving up to go on a huge trip of all of poland in two years. my parents think it's time to share the history if you know what i mean. i simply want to go to zakopane, we originate from a couple miles north east of zakopane, and sit on the mountains all day.
