Use a model of the inner layers (aka tectonic plates) and make them moveable. Use clay, which is a bendable material to demonstrate landslides and other earthquake traits. Good luck from MarciQ!

An easy one would be get a board, have a parent cut it in half to make a fault line, and then paint it and build little houses on it to make a model city. Then when you rub the two pieces of wood together along the fault line you'd have an earthquake.

Try this. Make a city out of something that will fall down, I'm thinking Lincoln Logs, or maybe Jenga blocks. Find a way to attach either a strong muscle vibrator, (not the thin slender ones), to what eveyou build on. A variable speed sander would be great for this. Turn on machine and down go the buildings. This is just a rough idea, but I think you can improve from here.

I am not big on models. However this site seemed to have some good info.
The key it looks like is finding what you want the earthquake to look like.

In some tall buildings, they install some sort of heavy pendulum at the top of the building which opposes any movements of the building by transferring the energy to the pendulum. But as previously answered, the key to it is having a building which can wobble. Anything brittle will snap

but seriously, you can create plates with clay or something, and show how they bump into eachother and grind on top of eachother.. <-- sounds dirty
but yeah
