there are many types of volcanoes.

stratovolcanoes: the destructive type (silent but deadly). the magma is very silica concentrated which makes these the most violent when erupting.

cinder cones: which are made from fragile materials ejected from the volcano, these volcanoes are fairly small. paricutin in Mexico is a cinder cone. it lasted for 10 years and gave scientists a chance to witness the birth growth and death of a volcano.

shield volcanoes: these are the fat ones. they are not very destructive and release large amounts of lava. the lava is mainly runny as it contains allot of basalt.

caldera: these are the biggest of them all. Yellowstone national park is one. if that erupts it would cause severe global damage. the sulfur dioxide it releases would stay suspended in the atmosphere for years and cool the earth. ash deposits would also be a problem. especially for the US.

these are the major types of volcanoes. there are many more. and there are even mud volcanoes!
