How about a "Subtly Lit Garden"?

I want some diminshed form of lighting in certain parts of my landscape. However, super well lit reminds me of gardens that pop up on rest areas on the expressway. I can't imagine why the highway commission wants to light up a lot of dead flowers and weeds. Now, here in Michigan they do take care of these gardens but there is no really spectacular plants to put under a spotlight. I think well lit is kind of like well groomed. For some reason I cant tolerate a well laid out perfect flower bed. I dont know if it is jealousy or not but I dont think so. Something there is that does not like a perfect garden. Same things for well lit. Well lit belongs in bars. I am experimenting with a lot of plants that bloom at night and color combinations that are enhanced by night. But, I still think I might like an area that has some night light but this is all in the planning stages. I certainly dont want well lit.

I think I would add "Up Lights" like I've seen on Christopher Lowell's TV program. Really "adds drama" I think he said, don't remember which show it was.

Gazing balls as Juncgir said *brilliant* illuminated by a fire would be attractive and innovative, but you can't have too many balls.

Flamingos present an interesting conundrum and a lack of true citing on my part, but National Geographic Magazine once had an article on flalmingos. As I recall their pink coloration comes from eating crustaceans, shrimp of a particular variety. Stands to reason what goes in...and we all know Fish Emulsion is a superior source of nitrogen and goodies for plants. Sure, flamingos. No info on Gnome poo.

I would not suggest using natural flamingo nor gnome gas as a source of fuel to light a garden.

What well lit gardens say to me is "Look at me...I'm the best...blahblahblah" well lit gardens are just too over the top for my taste. However, a more subtle and gently lit garden I could live with. One or two well hidden gnomes I can handle, but the flamingos need to migrate somewhere else.

To me, if it's well-lit, then by definition, it's not tacky. If the lighting makes it look tacky, then it's not WELL-lit :-)

I'm not big on the gnomes, but I do think Victorian Gazing Balls are kinda cool if they're not the focal point of the garden, but just an accent. Childhood thing, I suppose, as a great-aunt had one and it fascinated me :-)

Well it certainly doesn't look natural, but it could be fitted with a few water rides to finish the themed look. And then you could fit few polystyrene snow scenes and plastic deer for Christmas, bit of jingle hells music over the tannoy to overdo it further. Charge Twits to come in KERCHING!$$$$$$$$ And their you have it a very loud but WELL LIT! GARDEN.

Glow worms would be neat I saw these lining a cliffs edge path once in Dorset, it made such an awesome path light.

But if you want a real well lit garden set fire to it or have a bonfire and bring flaming pitch forks, for proper drama.

Providing the lighting is postioned correctly, a well lit garden can look great of a night time.

It depends on whether or not it's nicely laid-out. But then, I happen to like gnomes and flamingos. :P Mwahahahaaaa!
