There are many places where you can, even in the SF bay area. Here is a listing of 2 bedroom apartments currently on Craigs list in the SF bay area renting for $800 or below.

We just finished living in Alhambra, which cost $1,100 a month, and was a somewhat crime free area. You'd have to go way up North to find something like you're talking - try Redding.

ill be 100% honest. nowhere. in decent places it cost $600 to rent a bedroom in a house. for 1 guy.

try another state or live in the high-crime area.

upstate California. Possibly a private rental in the middle of nowhere. Just someone trying to make a little money renting out part of a house.

Try looking on Craigslist.com. I would check out San Diego County if you are looking in Southern California. Good luck it's not going be easy. Especially if you want to be in a good school district (rare in Southern California.)

Listen dude.. you just can't. Take your family of four and move to the South. (Wait that sounded wrong.. I love the South it's just that things tend to be cheaper down there.)
