Is it a wise choice for an American to visit Egypt this winter?

Hello,

I am an American male who has always been wanting to visit Egypt. I will be in Europe after xmas for 2 weeks, and I am trying to plan a trip to Egypt for a week. Is it safe. I can EASILY pass as European, as long as I dont talk, in addition, people would believe that I am Arab as well, as long as I dont talk. I am finding really cheap flights to Cairo, and was told that winter is the best time to go. Thanks

Hi,

A lot of Americans share your concern, I always tell them not to worry. You can wear the American flag and walk any street and no one will hurt you. Egypt is as safe as any of the european destinations u intend on visiting and in terms of the popular notion of american hatred, it is really the work of the media. Thousands of Americans visit every year and thousands work here in different companies and absolutely no problem.

Some people may have problems with American foreign policy, but trust me Americans are not the ones to blame and people understand that. I have not heard about any incidents where americans were targeted, hurt etc since forever.

So if u really want to visit, just fly over and be yourself, walk around as much as u want and if asked, just tell them u r american without hesitation. (as long as u dont look like G.Bush) :)

Winter is the best time, Nov-Dec is the peak for the toursim sector here, weather is fine.

I am including a link for the American embassy in Cairo, why dont u browse for more safety related info just to make sure. They are usually a bit too rigid, but why not go through them anyway.

there is no reason to be anxious about being recognised as an american.
we have nothing against any individuals.
if we are alarmed by american politics, we like americans and all nationalities.
come over when you go to europe.
two weeks after xmas is perfect in terms of weather.
try to see brochures to have a plan for your visit.
cairo has many attractions like the pyramids, the sphinx, the step pyramid in sakara, khan al khalili , a nile cruise in cairo, etc.
you can also plan to go to Sharm on the Red sea.
there, the weather is wonderful in winter.27c am and 18 c pm.you can swim and sunbathe, practice sea sports , etc.you can visit St Catherine monastry if you like . it is close to Sharm.
anyway, egypt welcomes tourists from all over the world, esp america.

There is nothing wrong with visiting Egypt this time of year.. Now is a great time to find cheap tickets..
I use to live in Hurghada and in Alex for about a year .. I haven't been back for 7 years... and I left someone very special behind.. I plan to go in December to marry him and to live there again...finally.. I am also American and yes, it is very safe for you, dont worry.. Just make sure you report to US Embassy so that they are aware you are their in case something does come up..

P.S. Their winter is like our spring.. Tshirts and light jackets will be just fine to wear..

LOL. That's a wonderful idea. Go to Cairo for a week and don't talk at all. You mentioned you were going were going to be there after the holidays. Maybe you could pass yourself off as a Christmas Turkey - that is if you don't talk at all.

man, u r completly safe....my brother have 2 american male friends live here in Egypt...and working for Apachi petroleum company. don't ever worry.thousands of Americans visit Egypt every year and alot of americans currently is living here. but frankly, ur media sucks!! sorry but this is the truth. they r misleading u...but any way don't worry.
i recommend Luxor & Aswan. the weather there is incredible this time of the year.
