If data set is an odd number, the middle number is called the median. If the data set is an even number the there is no middle number. You must take the average of the two numbers closest to the middle and that will be the median.

It's called the median.
For example the data is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. The median is 3.
Another example: the data is 3, 891, 749234, 7491287349, 99999999999. The median is 749234.
