See, I'm 16 with a car and I was hoping to go to an interview at Chick-fil-a on Wednesday. However, I just thought about if I would need a job permit? I am filling out my application right now and it says "Are you eligible to work in the U.S.? Check yes or no (Proof of eligibility is required upon employment). Is this talking about a work permit? If so, how do I go about getting one and how long should it take?

You do not need a work permit at 16. That was referring to proof of eligibility to work if you are 14 or 15 and not a US citizen.

In my state, those 17 or under need a work permit under the child labor laws. A minor's hours are regulated as to certain times off the day and the total number of hours per day and per week. He or she also may need parental and school permission. The number of hours depends on the type of job and your age. A birth certificate is proof of citizenship. Sometimes baptismal certificates are accepted, but the birth certificate is best. These are usually on file at the county court house where you were born. If you are not a citizen you may need a green card. If you are born in a foreign country to an American citizen, your parents may have registered you with the US embassy. Then the State Department would have your birth certificate. Take the interview first. They will tell you what you need.

You don't need a work permit because you're over 15. I think elibility to work in the U.S. just means that you're a US citizen over 15 (15 and younger need a work permit).

If you end up needing one it will take around 2 weeks.
