There has never been a law in San Antonio that precluded people of the Jewish faith from living in any part of the city. Remember San Antonio was developed by people of many nationalities. The King William District was built by the German merchants. La Villita was built by the settlers from the Canary Islands. The rest of the city has been somewhat blended. Prior to the civil rights laws changes in the 60s there was more distinct separation, but now people seem to separate themselves for social comfort. Therefore, South San Antonio has a higher demographic percentage of hispanics, with the schools showing 99% hispanic, the eastside has a higher percentage of African Americans and the Northside is the most blended. As you move north of San Antonio out into the surrounding counties and communities, the percentages of hispanics drop and the percentages of whites increase. This is not due as much to segregation, as to the high number of illegal immigrants in San Antonio
