It is fresh water because when sea water freezes it leaves the salt behind. Try it by making a strong salt solution and then freezng it.

Freshwater....salt water doesn't freeze, that's why there are liquid oceans under the polar ice caps.

salt water does freeze. salt simply lowers the freezing point of water, however, the ice caps are made of fresh water so, they would taste like fresh water
