Is there anything in the US/UK laws where i can demand this back or threaten with a lawyer?

ive spoken to them on the phone, sent tons of emails....i have a reciept....i signed no contract and they are taking the piss...i have worked for the ski resort before also

also it is a proper job...ive been before....the visa fell through and they havent sent it back to me

Did you sign a contract? Read through that to see the disclaimers and terms. If there was no contract, did you get a receipt for the deposit? Very often all you will need to do is have a hard copy written request of the refund sent to them via US Mail (or ground mail not email). You can also call, and email them. Document when you call, who you talk to and what the outcome was.

Sounds like you've been scammed. Did you pay the ski resort itself, or some other company who claimed they'd get you the job? It really doesn't matter, but I'm guessing it was the latter. You don't have and legal recourse unless you had a signed contract. Sorry.

For a legitimate job, you don't pay them to get the job, they pay you when you work for them.
