I'll be in Albuquerque, NM on Nov 30-Dec 2 for the weekend to visit an old friend from high school...can anyone recommend anything fun to do? I've heard going up to the mountains in Santa Fe might be good. Any other ideas for fun stuff to do???.......

Take the Tramway up to Sandia Peak. While there, enjoy a great meal at High Finance restaurant. If you're a golfer, unless it has snowed in the last few days, you can still find good golf going on. I recommend University South as the best course (by the airport.) If you enjoy Poker or gambling, there are lots of Indian Casino's in the area. My favorite is the Prairie Star in Bernallilo. Tons of good restaurants. A trip to Santa Fe is always good, and there could be some early season skiing in Taos, but check just before you pack up.

If you like museums, check out the Natural History Museum. One of the newest in the country and a good 3 or 4 hours spent. For shopping, Old Town cannot be beat.

If you want to see hot air balloons, get up early and head out to the West Mesa and Rio Rancho. A typical Saturday morning will have anywhere from 40 to 80 balloons. Not sure if they have moved, but it used to be on 19th Street in Rio Rancho past Unser Dr. If you see a balloon in the back of a truck, just follow it, it will be headed where you want to go. You want to be there by 6:00AM as the balloons will launch, weather permitting, right at sun rise or close thereafter. They fly Sundays also, but typically not as many as Saturdays. Don't be shy about asking any of the balloons if the need help. They may not need it, but are the most friendly group of people you have ever met, and I bet they will put you to work, and might surprise you with a ride offer. Even if you don't get a ride, the chase is every bit as much fun. (chased for 13 years until I moved out of the area.)

I've always loved going up the tram to Sandia Peak. It's cheap and the views and hiking trails are fun.
