Author and journalist Naomi Wolf spoke at the University of Washington last month and had a lot to say about the steps towards turning a democracy into a fascist dictatorship .
There our many echos of what has historically happened at other times and in other parts of the world.
Could this be happening here in the U.S.?
Is an Orwellian society what is in store for the future of America?

It worries me a great deal, and other people too!

Maybe its not a big deal to some of these future stormtroopers and party members who have answered here.
It could be that they already know that they will fold like cheap suits, the moment the new regime comes goosestepping its way into their town.

There are plenty of clear signs (some I've posted below), but some people won't be conviced until their own pathetic lives, or the lives of their loved ones, or people they know, are affected.

Great video by the way! totally awesome

For those TOOLS (of the state, or better yet FOOLS) here's the evidence you will no doubt dismiss anyway.

Lol !

You need evidence, like secret prisons?

this is happening now, HERE, like its happened before throughout time. Just like then there are those who will try to make others aware, and those who will try to keep peoples heads buried in the sand along with their own.
The precious eggshell of a reality they've built, in which the government is their protector, is starting to crumble and yes it is frightening to have your reality unearthed from under you, but denial won't help anyone.

If anything the United States is turning more socialistic. Government becoming bigger and taking over every aspect of our personal lives is what the so called "progressives" have for our future, and not for the reasons they give like how much they care, it's because they are the elite and therefore it is their birth right to rule. Just look at some of the quotes made by Hillary (the front running "progressive) of the Democrat party. "When I am elected president it should be my right to take away any profits from a company that I deem to be too much" and of course getting rid of the tax cuts, folks if you do a little research at the Library of congress web site the so called tax cuts only for the rich went to everyone that works. My wife and I are hardly rich we together make around 42 k a year and if and when a "progressive" is elected president my taxes will go up around 2,300 and where will it go? To an over bloated Government program that in reality will do little or nothing to help the poor as they say it will. Besides we have the richest poor in the world! I say government sucks at anything it gets involved in that isn't in the constitution. Look at Education, at no time in history have we thrown more money into a program with such terrible results. Teachers having to pay for esentials out of their own pockets because the money never reaches where it was meant to go, the kids! So if we stay as apathetic as we have in the past then we will become a socialistic country in the next few years and that will drag us down to being a 3rd world nation. Well if we let this happen it's no ones fault but our own . ok off my soap box....have a great day

I have coined a term I call "The Sci-Fi Scenario". It's the typical premise of most disaster-based Sci-Fi movies: something went terribly wrong, and now society is a sad, twisted form of what it once was.

It simply does not work that way in real life.

First of all, so many things that are done out of necessity in times of war all have SUNSET PROVISIONS, meaning these laws simply expire on a certain date. After WWII, were all the restrictions on the press continued? No, of course not. Were the Japanese forced to stay in detention centers. Certainly not.

This is real life. It is not a Sci-Fi movie.

Remember, our elected leaders cannot usurp power with impugnity. The American people are amazingly independent. Push us far enough, and we will storm the White House itself. Hence, our political leaders are under no delusions that we will passively watch as our freedoms are decimated.

So many of the arguments presented by people like Naomi Wolf are specious. For example, the often-cited warnings about the Patriot Act are absurd. Not one innocent person has been impacted by the provisions in that legislation. It is carefully and judiciously applied. However, Liberals use the lame Sci-Fi Scenario argument, shrieking in alarmist tones about what could "possibly" or "potentially" happen.

Those are childish arguments. There are many checks and balances in government. Remember, this is the United States of America. We are not a bunch of sheep, and we never will be.

Naomi Wolf is full of garbage. She's nice eye candy, but she rants on like a conspiracy theorist. I mean, she thinks the US is becoming a police state, that Bush will remain dictator and that all of our rights are being destroyed. She provides excellent examples of this happening in the past in other countries, but no conclusive evidence to support her theory happening here today or tomorrow (which is very typical of these types). She's a chicken little. What will she do when in 2009 Bush steps down? Won't she look like a fool...

You would do best to stay away from her, and I have seen her on the Colbert Report and I watched a 2 hour interview of her on C-Span. The ONLY thing she has ever said that I agree with is (and I am paraphrasing) "In Israel, terror is more of a threat to everyday life than it is here. And their government encourages them to be happy and not afraid. The Bush administration is trying to convince us to be afraid of terrorism, and we shouldn't be." That's some sounds advice I can live with. And then she goes back to her rant...

Yes it does. I have spent countless hours / days researching what is going on in America right now. The overpowering reach of the power brokers influences those who only rely on the "standard" for their news. This is how they are able to dress up what is going on, as something else.
One could call it Cross dressing.
Our country IS broken.

it concerns me but what can we do...we live in a nation of cowards who whish to ignore what is going on, who want only carnivals and circuses, and who are too self centered and self seeking to give a damn about the direction of the government, and too cowardly to do anything about it.
