i'm not going to answer your homework for you. butttt what i can do is tell you what you can do. just.. minus or add like terms to either side. once the variables witht eh numbers ( like 2x ) are on one side and 4 are on the other, then you are almost dun!
so it looks like this:
2x = 4
now you divide, 2x/4.
so now 2x divided by 4 equals 0.5 or -->> 1/2 ( half )
sorry if its confusing

A.) A total of 456 tickets were sold, so a + s = 456. The amount of money made from each type of ticket is its cost multiplied by how many were sold. Therefore, the amount of money made from the adult tickets alone is $3.50 * a = 3.5a dollars. Likewise, the amount of money made from the student tickets alone is $1 * s = s dollars. The total ticket sales equals $1131, so 3.5a + s = 1131. Thus, your system of equations is: a + s = 456 3.5a + s = 1131 B.) Multiply the first equation by -1 so it is -a - s = -456. Now add this equation to the second equation to solve for a through eliminating s from the resulting equation: (3.5a + s = 1131) + (-a - s = -456) = (2.5a = 675) 2.5a = 675 (divide both sides by 2.5) a = 270 And now you can solve for s. a + s = 456 (substitute 270 for a) 270 + s = 456 (subtract 270 from both sides) s = 186 ANSWER: 270 adult tickets and 186 student tickets

for the first one...
add 15 x to the other side. You now have:
15x + 3x = 27
Add like terms...
18x = 27
divide both sides by 18 to isolate the x...
x = 27/18.
That doesn't simplify down to a whole-number ratio, so just leave the answer how it is.
Hopefully that helps for the other ones. :)
EDIT: oops! maybe I did the math wrong, I just did it real quick. Always double-check your work! But the idea to solve is the same.

this is simple algebra, I'll show you. 3x=27-15x first, add the similar numbers(the ones with x's together) which would make it 18x=27(if you put a number one the opposite side of the = sign than it was before it is immediatly reversed from + to - and - to+) That would give you X=1.5 Always divide by the number that has the X. this is probably the simplest problem in Algebra-Good Luck.

3x=27-15x
18x = 27
x= 3.375
51=9-3x
42=-3x
-14=x
39c+78=33c
78= -6c
-13=x
-7a=-12a-65
5a=-65
a=-13
5p-9=2p+12
3p-9=12
3p=21
p=7
89+x=2-2x
89=2-3x
87=-3x
-29=x
5n+1=5n-1
the 5n's cancel ou...so you get...
1=-1 which is an untrue statement so...

1. 3x=27-15x
a) add 15x to each side
b) 18x=27
c) divide each side by 18
2. 51=9-3x
a) subtract 9 from each side
b) 42= -3x
c) divide each side by -3
3. 39c+78=33c
a) subtract 39c from each side
b) 78= -6c
c) divide each side by -6
get how it's flowing? it's the same thing for each problem. if it says 2b=80-8b, look at the MINUS sign, then add. but if it said 2b=80+8b, then look at the ADD sign, and subtract. it's just opposite.
hope that helped some!! :)

I would tell you that this is cheating, and you can't pass the tests when they come around, but my fellow answers users seem to have covered that already.
