Yes - you're at the end of the gestational stage when baby is relatively small compared to the size uterus, and can 'hide' in there...it is normal.

It could just be that the baby was in a weird position and it took a while to hear the heartbeat because of that,... we have never mistaken my heartbeat for my daughters because mine is kinda slow for an adult and hers is kinda fast for a baby so there is a very large difference,... lol,... but she hates anytime anything is pressed into my belly so it's kinda hard to get her heartbeat at first because she will punch at the doppler thing until he takes it off,... we did find a way though,.... I have to poke into my belly somewhere else first so she will punch at that while he gets her heartbeat, not even born yet and she's a trouble maker.

Sometimes it just depends on which way the baby is laying. I know with me I would freak out if the doctor couldn't hear it right away with the doppler because I had 3 early miscarriages (7-8 weeks along), and I was 15 weeks before they could hear my baby's heartbeat with the doppler.

It's normal to take a while sometimes. If the baby was active it's even harder, you have to be in a very specific spot on the baby's body to hear the heart beat(just like you can only hear your heart beat really well in one spot). At 18wks mine kept kicking the doppler so we couldn't hear it at all. My midwife had to wait a while and try again. You have nothing to worry about, sounds like you just have an active LO in there.

YES! Thankfully it has only happened twice for me. I was laying on the table and we heard a heartbeat right away, and then my doctor said no wait thats yours.. i was like please find my babys now! LOL he did and i felt alot better. Im now 36 weeks and everything is going happy and healthy :) have faith. Its normal to worry i think our worrying starts now and doesnt end until the day we die! WOW long time! Good luck!

sure its normal, sometimes baby is facing backwards or in a hard position to get a nice clear listen. Sometimes i found it odd that one time they would find the heart beat real clear down low, then the next time it would be way on the right side, up higher. it all depends on baby.

It is usually because the baby has changed postion and moved around to a new spot or a spot that makes it harder to hear....they do this a lot at this stage!!

Yes, actually this happened all through my 9 months, because my baby was towards the back of the placenta.

It has a lot to do with the babys position and the experience of the technician. I wouldn't worry about it...
