I have been working for nine months already for my boss, but she made the decision of selling the shop. fortunately I will stay working with the new owner. My question is, what can I ask for legally (15 days paid vacations, some bonus for working with her, etc)? I just don't know please some advice out there.

Congrats on being able to stay on with the new owner.

The most important thing for you to do now is to not be modest about your value to the business. You need to sit down to discuss what exactly your contributions and tasks to the business have been. If possible, talk with the selling owner to find out what she is planning on telling the new owner about you! If you have a good relationship with the selling owner, she most likely will put in a great word for you.

When talking with the new owner, mention again what you have done for the company and that you feel you are a reason why the business was an attractive purchase for them. Also tell them exactly what your vacation days were, your bonus situation and that you hope to be able to continue with the same or greater benefits as well as to provide the same or more value to the new owner.

Hope this helps!

You can ask for whatever you want, but the new owner is not legally required to give you ANY benefits, even to continue the ones you have from the old owner. 15 days paid vacation would be a lot, so don't expect that. She might or might not give you a bonus.

As long as she pays you at least minimum wage, there's no legal requirement for her to continue to pay you what you've been making.

Think of it as starting over with a new job offer. That's essentially what it is.

As an employer, I can't help but think "wow, a *whole* nine months?" As for your question, you don't usually get 15 days vacation until you've been at a job for five years or more... and have you really proven yourself as being so indispensable that you can be arrogant enough to ask for a bonus (after NINE MONTHS of employment?)

I'd be curious to hear how this works out.

Legally you can ask for anything. Realistically you can hope for 5 paid days vacation next year (10 if you are lucky) and maybe some sick/personal time after a whole 9 months on a job that is defunct

You can ask at any time - unless you have some sort of written documentation of any paid time off; they don't have to honor anything you have been told. I doubt she sold the shop because it was making a ton; she probably sold because it wasn't making anything - she may not have the $$ to give you anything.
