My beloved betta (benny) died this morning from dropsy. I miss having a betta in my community tank and i would like to get another one however i don't want him to die too. How do you feed bettas in a community tank without letting them eat too much? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! I had benny for a year and everything was fine until a few days ago. I miss my little guy :( Thanks!

DON'T clean out the tank completely since it's already established
Also a betta can live up to 7 years with proper care and habitat
I always fast all my fish one day outa the week, which prevents constipation
Also keep up with weekly partial waterchanges of 25% with a gravel siphon, that way you can keep your water parameters in check
also test your water parameters for ammonia and nitrites, which are suppose to be at 0
and your nitrAtes, which should be around 20ppm, if they're higher you will need to do a bigger waterchange

Cause of dropsy is usually poor waterconditions

Hope that helps
Good luck

dont worry to much, bettas are normally short lived, firstly remove all water from your tank and fill it from scratch again( to remove any viruses which may have been left) leave for a few days and check the tempurature, ph and nitrate levels! these are important for a healthy aquarium, make sure u have plenty of space and keep the tank in a ideal postition, next onece u have set the tank back up, go to your local pet shop and look for a healthy brightly couloured betta, no nips or bites, if you find a betta in a tank with a sick fish, avoid this for now. i recomend a female betta as males can be agressive things, or if you want a betta substitute i strongly reccomend guppys, these are like little bettas.

HE WAS PROBABLY JUST OLD. WE TRY TO GET OUR BETAS ATTENTION AND ONLY FEED TWO OR THREE BETA BITES.
