Do you mean married men?
If you mean single men than one would work to support themselves and/or for personal fullfillment.
If you mean married men, thats a different story. In traditional American society, the man was the provider and the woman was the home maker. It was the mans role to provide for his wife and children to put food on the table, clothes on their backs, send them to school and take care of any other money related needs that would arise. It was up to him to make the money as the wife's job didn't come with a paycheck... she stayed home, cooked, clean, did the shopping, took care of the kids etc. Even more so years ago there were a lot less jobs available for women, and these jobs didn't exactly pay very well.... so back then the man really was for the most part the sole provider.
Times have changed though. A lot of wives work as do their husbands. Often the reason is because things are just so insanely expensive these days. Another reason is because women also gain personal fullfillment from working. Another reason is because the traditional family structure has changed as there is a rise in divorce, more single parents, and people waiting longer to get married.
That being said a family man doesn't ALWAYS have to work these days. There are some familys where the roles have changed... the wife works and the husband is a stay at home dad.
Ultimatly it is a matter of survival that makes people work. Passion drives their job choice but the 3 basic needs require money and money requires a job.
If you hate work, perhaps see if there is something you can adjust in your personal life so that you no longer have to... or perhaps it's time to find a job that you find more rewarding and don't hate going to everyday. Good luck! :)

why have such an ignorant question? do you mean why does MAN have to work as in the human race? or you seem to think that only men work to provide?
well let me tell you something: My husband and I both work. WOW! is that groundbreaking for you? that women work as well? and you know what else? I'm an executive chef! WOWEE! a WOMAN working in a MAN'S field! and being at the top of the ranks in the field too!!!
get a brain, and an attitude adjustment.

Its expected. Men are generally thought of as the leaders of most household.
Though I believe women should have the right to work, I think more men should take it upon themselves to be 'men'.
We are lacking real men in todays society, and it shows just how weak men have gotten over time. Because a lot of them are irresponsible, jobless, no education.......bums.

You mean "Why does EVERYONE have to work?", ok...now I get your question! Well the answer is "To provide the best they can for themselves and loved ones. Providing includes, but is not limited too, food, clothing, electricity, and some sort of shelter aka a home/house/apartment. These are just the necessities I have listed."

Not always. Everyone should be working wen they're old enough to support themselves. Some dads are stay at home dads because the wife makes more than the husband ever will.

Men should work and take care of the family as the bible states. They are suppose to be head of the home, a leader.

lets see because they make more money than the average woman,so it makes more sense to send him out to earn the family income than to send her out, besides the fact that she has the burdens of pregnancy that he doesn't have? When men and women make the same paycheck then the one who stays home will be the one who is better with the kids and managing the home.

well it's not always the man that has to work. I know several couples and families where the woman/ mother is the bread winner in the family.
If you don't wanna work anymore ...
find yourself a sugar-momma and be her arm candy!
