Teams like the devil rays, royals, pirates, there is no excuse why owners cant get their teams into the playoffs once every 5 years, these owners should be fined for not trying to put a good team on the field for their fans, yankees, red sox, mets, braves, angels, etc, these teams have a playoff shot every year right out of spring training, if they can do it, so can everyone else.

I personally like that idea. it must be FORCED to compete. you take the marlins..excuse after excuse. no owner should be allowed to own a team simply for pride of saying they own a team in their elite rich folk circles. you also mention tampa bay..come on..each year they-like the marlins-are loaded with young talent and each year the sell it off for freaking washed up players and try to justify it by saying..oh we needed a veteran player to help the young guys

but what kills me are these teams that get new staduims and then make NO effort to get good..because they already got the staduim. believe it or not-people do think this way...especially cheap owners.

if you love baseball you'll play it anywhere. you don't need a new staduim to do so. if you really care about the game...you'll play it anywhere.

just ask all the poor kids who are playing with no gloves but paper cups and cardboard on their hands-in the dominican republic and cuba and mexico...etc.

Sorry, but that's a ridiculous idea.

I'd like to see the Rays, Royals, etc. become more competitive, but there's no way they can compete financially with teams like the Yankees, Sox or Mets. A big-market team with large TV contracts has an inherent advantage over the smaller-market teams, even with revenue sharing.

If you want parity, then go to a salary cap. Otherwise, let the league run as it always has and we'll just have to be happy with the way things are.

In a way they do. Generally speaking the teams you mention drawer fewer fans than teams such as the Yankees and Red Sox.

I totally agree, in a way it would be a fine for making the fans put up with the mismanagement of a team and force teams to become competitive in the free agent market and in their drafting. There are too many teams that are happy with doing nothing because regardless of how they finish they are still making their money, while the fans have to sit idly by and watch yat another season go by with nothing to cheer for.

It's not that simple. Money talks and those teams you mentioned simply don't have it. Fineing them for being poor is like taxing the homeless. It is NOT the way to go. I think a better luxury tax would help more, but I am not in favor of a salary cap.

Not a chance. THose teams do not have the same revenue, if you are looking for true "parity" then a salary cap needs to be inforced but MLB is not about to do that and end up with a Tampa vs Pittsburgh WS that no one watches, it helps baseball to have the biggest markets with the best teams, they get more revenue and that is what they run MLB for, to make money.

Ye gads! With the imbalance in money as it is, don't you think that's a bit harsh? I mean, if Pittsburgh had its way, they would win the World Series. Is it the owner's fault that he's neither as rich or as crazy as the Yankee's owner? Just be patient. Sooner or later everyone wins something.

Teams like the Yankees have UNLIMITED "deep pockets", thus they have an inherent advantage come playoff time.

Your question will most likely meet with a resounding "NO"... so let me go ahead and add mine to the mix, with the caveat that it's just unfair. Like the fellow above me said, it's akin to taxing the homeless.

ARE YOU CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am 1000% sure that every single manager in the MLB does NOT want to manage a losing team and I AM 100% SURE that EVERY manager tries their hardest. AND "FYI", I am a METS fan and I still think that every manager that loses to the METS or any other great team is A GREAT MANAGER AND I KNOW THAT THEY TRIED THEIR BEST TO WIN! SO, the answer to your STUPID question in a BIG, FAT NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
