I'm using Playtex bottles to feed my 6 week old daughter. The regular shaped nipples didn't work well for her, so I switched to the orthodontic nipples. Unfortunately these only come in latex, and the box says not to sterilize them after each use. I don't feel good about that. I use a microwave steam sterilizer. Is it safe to sterilize the latex nipples?

I sterilized all my bottles, rings and nipples and soothers in boiling water for 5 mintues after every use until my son was about 6 months old. And I used silicone and latex nipples, it's fine. I think that when your baby gets to three or four months you should replace them all because I think that boiling them all the time breaks them down a little more, but the way you do it with your machine would probably be a little less harsh on them. After he was 6 months I washed them with hot soapy (antibaterial of course) water, because when they are really young they don't have a strong immune system so I think that sterilizing everything any way you do it is a good idea. Good Luck.

You do not need to steralize them after each use. I just let mine soak in hot soapy water and wash them. Theres no need for it :) trust me ive been there and done that and the more kids you have the more you learn! you will be wasting your time! kids and babies both are exposed to germs many times a day. You are a very good mommy for trying to hardest to be safe for your baby. But on the same hand, i promise no harm will be done. Back in the day people NEVER steralized anything and we are still alive right :) I always steralized mine after i purchased them and that was it :)

The nurses told me to put them in the dishwasher. I don't know if that will work for your particular nipple, but it did with mine.

If it says not to, then I wouldn't try it. Contact Playtex and ask them before trying it.

Just let them soak. If you was them right away or soak them right away there is no need to sterlize.
