It's gonna be wireless but you're gonna have to give up a USB slot. Most any laptop can run a wireless mouse. In fact, our ancient (that's 4 years, for a computer) 512K IBM A31 Thinkpad took right to a cheap ($10) wireless mouse right off the bat. No CD to load, just a little thingie to plug in to the USB port, click its button and a button on the bottom of the mouse to set up communications, and all was well.

Yes. The wireless will probably include a transmitter/receiver which is plugged into a USB port on the laptop. Older wireless mice may use PS/2-style 5-pin connectors. Some connect via Bluetooth. You need whatever is appropriate for your particular laptop. If it is less than 3 - 4 years old, USB should work fine and there are numerous products to choose from. I recommend an optical rather than mechanical (roller ball) mouse.

I'm using one right now . . .Mine is a Microsoft "plug 'n play" . . . the receiving unit plugs into a USB port and the computer detects the new hardware and you are good to go.

Yes, I'm using one right now from Kensington.
They just have a USB thing that plugs into your laptop, and you use it like any other computer. :)
