I was wondering about those people who go into their prenatal appointments and are like 3 cm's dilated.... How far do you have to be dilated before you have to stay in the hospital/ be induced/ go into labor etc.... ?? Or is there even really such a thing??

im not sure if there is a rule, i think it depends on how far along you are. some woman can be 2 3 cm dialated for many weeks before labor begins. im assuming if you are 5 + cm, they would let you hang around a while but hard to say if you have not had contractions or anything.

I walked around for a month 3 cm dialated. When I found out that I had started dialating I just knew I would be having my baby sooner than expected. I was so happy and excited. But nope, in fact my daughter was a week late.

I think labor depends on the health of the baby more than anything. As long as your water hasn't broken, contractions haven't started or the baby isn't in any danger the Dr. will usually wait.

Being dialated really doesn't seem to make a difference without the three elements I listed above.

Soem doctors will induce once you reach 4 cm regardless. But really you can get farther than that and still walk around for weeks.
