Well you know what they say about a guy with a big net? He must have a big afro, must be a fisherman, or he must be a goalie. I know, I know, keep my day job.

Boston Globe wrote a story called "Enlarging nets is no solution to shrinking scoring". Yet, of course Yahoo spread the rumor, as "NHL answer to scoring drop could be bigger nets"
Beside to point, yet funny how different those two titles are, yet one is meant to be a summary of the other.

Any-who, what do you guys think.....keep the nets the same?....make them bigger.......make them smaller?

Raise the bridge or lower the river. What if they make the puck smaller? LOL
I like the idea of the goalie having to stay in his crease to freeze the puck. They can come out to cut the angle but, if they freeze the puck outside the crease it's delay of game. This should keep the play moving and lead to a few extra goals.
Make the net bigger? (The league was a good 40 years old before Plante discovered all the nets weren't the same size to begin with.) Nope, let's leave it the same but, cut down on the oversized equipment being used and stop them freezing the puck outside their crease.

My opinion is this;
NEVER Change the size of the net.....Period.....!
It is the only thing which is constant and can keep everything else in the game ,which is and has changed---Grounded.
I do not believe that any other sport has changed as much as the game of hockey.
Here we are now,,,,,, And some Dude in the back of the crowd with money falling out of his pockets cries," Let's make the NETS BIGGER"
A comment like that makes me and most Canadians PUKE !!!!!
And I guess that's about all I have to say on that.

I'm all for keeping the nets the same size. Just get the goalies to wear 80s equipment

I play Jr. hockey in Maine and im all for keeping the nets the same size. You wouldnt beleive how the puck gets in the nets sometimes and there are alot of disadvantages to the goalie already such as screening, lighter player sticks, deflections..etc!!

Especially in the nhl, these guys can put the puck in from behind the net!! ""WATCH THE MICHIGAN GOAL""

KEEP THE NETS HOW THEY ARE!!!

Same size nets, same size equipment. Leave the game alone for awhile! I agree that the post lockout changes have been a positive (and I was skeptical at best), but let it go for now. No more changes!

keep them the same. It has been what we have been using for a long time. To change them would cause more goals in the beginning because the goalies would not be familiar with them. Over time that will change and the goalies will adapt. If they dont adapt their pads would just get bigger. keep them the same.

It will never happen. Too many fans and players will reject the idea. It is too radical of a concept.

Roberto Luongo (one of the best goaltenders currently playing the game) announced he would retire if the NHL adjusted the net size.

if they keep changing rules & all that, i swear there will be a time when hockey wouldnt be even called hockey. i say keep them the way they are unless you want to see Luongo, one of the great goalies, retire!! what's your opinion?

Sure, make 'em bigger. While you're at it, make a football field 80 yards and have pitchers throw with their opposite hands every other inning.

I don't like it.
