I volunteer at a battered women's shelter on a weekly basis. I also assist with the food pantry at my church, and do clerical work for those in charge of the community outreach program.

Every year I donate money to the Aids Research Alliance, Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, Action Against Hunger, and the Center for Community Change. I also donate blood every 3 months.

I'm a conservative.

I got the ball rolling and came up with more than 20 warm winter coats for kids at a school in an impoverished neighborhood. I'll be delivering them tomorrow.

On top of that, I have no problem paying more taxes for a stronger social safety net.

People need each-other, and we all have a responsibility to make this world better for our children... and for all children.

Liberal.

Today at our grocery store, my son and I encountered an old man, he was slow, and hunched a little, and we helped him get a basket, and do his shopping. He had only needed a loaf of bread, some apples, and donuts. We didn't pay for it though, he had money, we walked him out, but he went on his way, not wanting our help anymore. We said good-bye and smiled. That was it.
I guess giving isn't always about money, is it?
This man gave my son reason to be proud of himself, gave me a reason to smile, and we gave the man a little help. It was worth it.

I assume you are not including the 10% of my gross income that I tithe to church or the other donations I give to non-profits.

I also assume that you mean other than my family whom I help when they ask (yes even the in laws)

Couple weeks ago a guy asked for gas money so I put 40 gallons of gas in his van.

I'm a traditional conservative (not a neo-con)

I'm a less fortunate con who helps myself on a daily basis.

Plus I help fortunate libs almost hourly by saying "Hi" to them so they don't feel such a strong need to call their psychiatrists/counselors more than once a week.

I guess donating childrens' toys and clothing was the last thing I did recently and not that long ago... along with a bedroom set for an infant.

Just last week, no kidding. I saw a vagabond begging with a cardboard sign that said homeless, please help. I stopped & told him our company was going to need a janitor with in a week. I quickly told him about the benefits package that comes with the job & gave him the address & phone number. Still have'nt seen him!
