Assuming the bumper padding is "medium"..not too thin, and not too thick. Thanks in advance for your help!

between 5 and 6 yards. this depends on your skills and how much you want to piece.

this amount will give you enough leeway to make a couple of pillows to match also.

It is a link to the American Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Institute. In order to reduce the risk of death to infants, they state that little ones should NOT have quilts, CRIB BUMPERS, toys, pillows, or blankets in the crib with them. These things may look cute and cosy, but why take the risk?
The only things that should be in the crib are the (firm) mattress, the sheet, and the baby.
I do hope you read the article and seriously reconsider making the crib bumper.

Your material width would let you have the front and the back so measure the lenght you want it to cover and add sufficient material for the hem (usually 5/8") .
