Machiavelli seems quite cynical about the role of religion in politics. Like moses bringing the ten commandments, or Numa and roman religion, there is nothing divine about religion. Rather, the role of reltigion is meant to educate citizens into civic virtue. Yet despite this cynicism, machiavelli refers to fortuna as a goddness. Is machiavelli oing nothing more than founding a new religion? is there something different about fortuna?

Using the word goddness definitely sounds like a new religion to me, nothing different there than what other people have done, I am definitely a fan of the ten commandments though, they give us standards we need to keep ourselves in touch with God.
