I've seen this in other games, but at the Saints game yesterday, in the 4th Quarter with less than 7 mins left, the Saints drove down the field with the recievers or backs running out of bounds on most of the plays. It was obvious that the player went out of bounds and NOT tackled near the sideline, yet the clock continued to run. (this happened on atleast 4 plays).

Why? Why Why Why? (The refs did suck at this game)
What is the NFL rule?? Please send a link if you have one

On the play he's talking about the guy wasn't touched, he fell down and rolled out of bounds and the referee was standing right there and gave the signal to roll the clock.
We should not have spotted them so many points, but that was a bad call.

The rule was changed a few years back. Now the clock only stops for out of bounds in the last 2 minutes of the 1st half and the last 5 minutes of the 2nd half.

For all those claiming this was a bad call, it was NOT! It was, most definitely the right call. The NFL changed the rule to speed up games. Now, it may not have been a good rule change (coulda cut down commercials instead) but it IS the correct interperetation of the rule and was in no way, shape or form a bad call by the refs.

I have seen it happen several times where a players forward momentum is stopped prior to him going out of bounds. The refs will mark the ball at the forward momentum point and keep the clock going since the ball carrier went out of bounds after the refs blew the play dead.

With the exception of the last two minutes of the first half and the last five minutes of the second half, the game clock will be restarted following a kickoff return, a player going out of bounds on a play from scrimmage, or after declined penalties when appropriate on the referee’s signal.

The Rule is probably that the players foward momentum was stopped by the defense in bounds, before the runner managed to get out of bounds. In that case the clock runs as if he was tackled in bounds.
