Because it is possible to set a different default for different browsers, there is no one spot to look for that information.
Best thing to do is download a file for which you know the name, the do a "search" for the file. The folder you find the file in will be the default.

in answering your question, it varies with people. Same operating system but different browser.
Here's is a simple way to find your default download folder.
1. Download something from the internet.
2. Click on your "START" menu and look around until you see "SEARCH" Now click on that button.
3. In the "SEARCH" folder, on your left view there is a list of choices. Look for "All files and folders" Click on it.
4. Now type in the file that you recently just downloaded.
5. Click on search
6. Once your search result comes up. You should be able to see the folder in which internet files are being kept. Usually a file called "temp"

Everything I download (if I dont specify a destination folder) goes into "My Pictures".
