Omar Infante and his .307 OPB/.355 SLG head to Chicago for Jacque Jones and his .335/.400. Omar is paid about $1.3m, with Jones at almost $5.7m.

Who gets the better of this trade? Is it even possible to get the better of a trade involving these two guys?

The Tigers got the better deal. He may be a pit over paid, but Jones will provide the big left handed bat the Tigers need to beat the Indians.

Right now, it looks as if The Tigers got the best of the deal. Money is no problem. The Tigers needed a left handed bat, and that's what we got. We also have Thames & Raybrun we could use as defensive replacements in the late innings if needed.

I will miss Omar. But The Tigers just re-signed Ramon Santiago, and he's good too. Overall, I think The Tigers are set for 2008. With the re-signing of Todd Jones (who I was willing to let go 3 weeks ago, but with Zumaya out we needed him back) we are looking good.

Now all we need is D. Willis!!!

lol@ Dr. J!

Anyone who thinks that Detroit got the better end of the deal will change their mind when they see Jones try to throw home from the vast outfield in Detroit. Three bounces later it will hit the cutoff man.
Honestly - Jones has the weakest arm in the league! But then again, the Cubs think Pie will be a future star, even though he cannot catch up to a fastball, so it seems like all is normal in the Cubs universe. But Infante will only be asked to fill in here and there, so I guess he will be fine.

I am not sure that this trade does anything other than get people talking about the respective teams. I guess it helps the Tigers getting Jones for another OF but Infante was versatile. The Cubs did save about 4 and half mill but really did not address a serious need, unless they think he will morph into the next great infielder by playing for them. I think the trade is a wash but pretty gives us something to talk about.

I have never been a big fan of either but Jones might be the better of the two. However, at $1.3 million for Omar and $5.7 million for Jones I would take Omar and put $4.7 million in the bank for a rainy day.

I think the Tigers got the better of it. Jones is hardly a superstar, but he has some pop, is still a solid defender. He is a bit overpriced, but he can be useful until Cameron Mabry is ready. Infante is never going to be anything more than a utility guy. The fact that he couldn't beat out weak-kneed Carlos Guillen speaks volumes about his talent.

This trade makes no sense. The Cubs need a LHB OF - not another RHB Util IF. The only reason for this is to free up $$$ to go after someone they actually need...namely an outfielder who bats lefty.

Omar may never even wear Cubs blue...they could trade him on to someone else to upgrade in other areas (like who pitches 3rd? who can actually be called a legitimate closer - here's a hint, not Dempster).

I think it was a dumb trade unless one of the above scenarios occur.

Moving Jones means that the Cubs can give the CF job full time to Felix Pie. Sounds like a good deal to me.

I don't think either one is that good, but the cubs got ripped off. They are paying the million bonus to him and he is an established player. You would think with his second half stats they could have done much better, but I think they were worried they couldn't move him like before, so they took whatever they could.
